Subject: Lifescope TIPs & QUIPs [24] "Enthusiasm"
When I think about the impact of enthusiasm, I recall that the original use
of the word meant "having the god within" (Greek 'entheos. Keeping in mind
that 'god' was thought of as the powerful-without-limit creator -- it adds a
little 'reverence' for the power which enthusiasm can tap into.
On the flip side, another view of the word was "possessed." It meant that
you had given over your senses and could no longer perceive reality.
So you could be crazed or passionate, motivated or manic. And the boundary
can be a thin line. As is true in everything in this world, I'm finding, the
optimum is usually between the two extremes. But it is only when we become
aware of those two defining points, can we determine our preferred position.
I, for one, vote for being on the upper half of that range. -- Lee Lukehart

(excerpted from "Dynamic Mind Principles" by Brian Adams)
"Every great and commanding movement in the annals of the world is the
triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it." This
was the feeling of Ralph Waldo Emerson, poet and essayist; and how true.
Enthusiasm is a magical word meaning "keen interest." Lack of enthusiasm
has kept many a soul from achieving success.
Enthusiasm is the difference between caring and not caring, between
interest and disinterest. Many stage performers I know captivate audiences
by injecting great enthusiasm into everything they do. Enthusiasm is
energy motivated. Energy is the capability for doing work. When you work
and play you draw upon energy stored within your body.
The energy that makes organizations move, depends upon 'individual'
enthusiasm. Leaders with bright ideas and the ability to inspire high
thought and action in others are the main generators of energy. Their
individual brand of enthusiasm rubs off onto other people and inspires
them to greater works.
There are untapped sources of energy within all of us. When we tap our
energy supply we become more dynamic, more productive and consequently
more successful. Psychic energy combined with physical energy is a mighty
power that can elevate your present position in life and bring you imost
of what you desire through expanded personal production and creative
accomplishment.
One of the things every potential leader must learn is how to get along
with others in business and how to motivate them. The people being
delegated duties must respect their leader. They must be 'impressed' with
his special brand of enthusiasm and drive. What psychologists term
'psychological drive' is really another term for 'enthusiastic appeal' of
an idea.
ENTHUSIASTIC PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR.
No person who is enthusiastic about his work, his friends, his family, has
anything to fear from life. Opportunities are waiting to be grasped by
people who are enthusiastic. Enthusiasm overcomes inertia; it dispels
discouragement and loneliness. It draws 'good' to the person who displays
it. Love life and it will love you back. Be enthusiastic about life and it
will reward you with greater accomplishment.
FIVE ENTHUSIASM PICK-ME-UPS
Anyone can be enthusiastic when things are going well; it takes
concentrated effort and courage to be enthusiastic when the going gets
tough. Here are five pick-me-ups to apply when things get you down.
Pick-me-up #1:
When you feel depressed because of negative circumstance and your
thoughts are negative, reverse them and project thoughts of what you
most want to happen in your life. Experience now the happiness, love,
peace and joy you desire. Jump up, shout it to the roof tops and pour
enthusiasm into your desire for a happier life. This sudden rush of
energy will dissolve your mental inertia and feelings of depression.
Pick-me-up #2:
If you desire more friends, if you want more people to be around you,
to admire you and to love you, then the very next person you speak to,
greet with enthusiasm. Show to others the admiration and love you
seek. To be fed, be bread.
Pick-me-up #3:
Act like an enthusiastic person. Get on fire. Project a sparkling
personality that marks you as a dynamic person. Act enthusiastically
toward everything and you'll be marked as an enthusiastic person.
Pick-me-up #4:
As lethargy pyramids, so does enthusiasm. Don't be lethargic in the
morning, enthusiastic at noon and lethargic again in the evening. Jump
out of bed in the morning with enthusiasm for what's ahead and stay
that way until you retire.
Pick-me-up #5:
Associate with enthusiastic people. They'll influence your life in
like manner. Enthusiastic people are the now people. They are zestful
and usually getting much from the current moment. Enthusiastic people
will inspire you to achieve greater things in life. Make friends with
enthusiastic people. They are excellent mental pick-me-ups. When you
are around them, their enthusiasm won't allow for loneliness or fits
of depression.
